The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited applications for new appointments to its national selection committees, including the senior men’s panel. Two members will be replaced in the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee, which recently picked the squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.
The BCCI on Tuesday, August 19, named India’s 15-player squad for the 2025 Asia Cup, which is set to take place from September 9 to September 28 in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Suryakumar Yadav will captain the T20I team, with Shubman Gill, who was recently appointed the Test captain, serving as his vice-captain.
BCCI Invites Applications for National Selector Positions
The BCCI opened applications for two positions on the Senior Men’s Selection Committee. Candidates must apply by 5:00 PM IST on September 10. After screening, shortlisted applicants may be called for interviews, and all selected members are expected to follow BCCI rules.
“The Application deadline is set for 5:00 PM IST on September 10. After the screening and shortlisting process, candidates may be called for personal interviews for further evaluation. All roles require adherence to BCCI’s rules, regulations, and highest standards of integrity,” the BCCI said in a release.
Applicants for the Senior Men’s National Selector role must have played either seven Tests, 30 First-Class matches, or 10 ODIs with 20 First-Class matches. They should have retired from cricket at least five years ago and must not have served on any BCCI Cricket Committee for a total of more than five years.
Two Senior Men’s Selection Committee Members Set to Be Replaced
The senior men’s selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, currently includes SS Das, Subroto Banerjee, Ajay Ratra, and S Sharath. This panel selected India’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup.
With Sharath’s tenure ending, he is expected to be replaced, and another position may be vacated by either SS Das or Subroto Banerjee. Ajay Ratra, who joined in October 2024, is likely to retain his role.
Ajit Agarkar’s contract as chief selector has been extended until the 2026 T20 World Cup. The BCCI is implementing these changes ahead of a packed domestic and international season, including preparations for the T20 World Cup.
BCCI Opens Applications for Four Senior Women’s Selection Committee
The BCCI also invited applications for four positions on the Senior Women’s Selection Committee. Candidates must be former Indian women’s team players and meet retirement and committee experience requirements. The panel will manage selections across formats and age groups.
The women’s panel, currently led by Neetu David, will see an overhaul as her term ends in September. Shyama Shaw is expected to stay, while David, Aarti Vaidya, and Renu Margrate will step down. Notably, the South Zone currently has no representative.
The BCCI is looking to fill one spot on the Junior Men’s Selection Committee, which handles selections for teams up to the Under-22 level and manages junior tournaments. One change is expected in this panel, currently chaired by Thilak Naidu.
