Redemption time for Shivam Dube as he caught the catch to dismiss Virat Kohli in the ongoing Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Chennai Super Kings (RCB vs CSK) IPL 2026 match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Earlier in the match, Dube put down a catch when Virat was batting on only 7. Dropping a catch of Virat Kohli is always a huge moment in the match. It was the 3rd match of the first innings when Shivam Dube dropped Virat Kohli. On the 5th over, the CSK fielder did not repeat the mistake.

Seamer Anshul Kamboj holds back the length to trick the RCB batting maestro. The right-handed batter went down the ground to play a big shot. The connection was not right, the ball took the top of the bat and went high in the air. At the long on, Dube ran across to his right and made no mistake to pouch the ball.

Virat Kohli's departure was the silence before a storm

When Virat Kohli departed, Royal Challengers Bengaluru was on 37 in 4.3 overs. From there, Phil Salt, Devdutt Padikkal, captain Rajat Patidar, and mostly Tim David hijacked the entire momentum of the match to secure a huge total of 250 in 20 overs against 3 wickets only. The pair of Tim David and Rajat Patidar in the middle proved to be unstoppable tonight on their home ground. According to the stats, as the innings progressed, the run rate of RCB went higher and higher.

RCB innings progression:
Overs 1-6: 51/1 at 8.50 RPO
Overs 7-15: 102/2 at 11.33 RPO
Overs 16-20: 97/0 at 19.40 RPO

A record-breaking moment for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru

The total of 250 is recorded as the third-highest runs scored by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in an innings of an IPL match. The most they have registered in an innings was 263, which they scored against the Pune Warriors India (now defunct).

Highest innings totals for RCB
263/5 vs PWI, Bengaluru, 2013
262/7 vs SRH, Bengaluru, 2024
250/3 vs CSK, Bengaluru, 2026
248/3 vs GL, Bengaluru, 2016
241/7 vs PBKS, Dharamsala, 2024

After the innings break, Devdutt Padikkal stated that they know their home ground, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, very well. So, when they sensed the opportunity, they did not hesitate to welcome it with open arms.

"We understand that in the Chinnaswamy, if we have wickets in hand in the last five, six overs, we can really maximize, and that's what we did. (any target in mind during that stand?) Not really, to be honest. It's very hard to set a target here in Chinnaswamy. It's important that the moment you have that momentum behind you, you have to just keep going," RCB batter Devbutt Padikkal, who scored a half-century tonight, at the interval, explains how they were able to put such a massive total on the board.
