Ben Dwarshuis took his career-best figures of 5/21 against Brisbane Heat in the Qualifier of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24. His performance helped Sydney Sixers to win the match and reach the finals of the BBL. Brisbane Heat won the toss and opted to bowl first. Sydney Sixers, laying on the back of 42(33) by Daniel Hughes and 59(50) by skipper Moises Henriques, posted 152/8 in 20 overs.

Brisbane Heat might have thought that it was an easy target to achieve when they came onto bat but what unfolded was a complete demolition job by Ben Dwarshuis who picked up a fifer. Sydney Sixers bowled out Brisbane Heat for 113 and won the game by 39 runs. Ben Dwarshuis was also awarded the Player of The Match for his performance. Sydney Sixers have qualified for the finals whereas Brisbane Heat will face the winner of the Knockout game in the Challenger round.

Ben Dwarshuis was a part of the Australia squad that toured India after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 for a T20I series. He picked up five wickets in two matches in the series and has credited his stint with the Australian team against India for his performance in the Qualifiers. He said that the performance in India helped him start his BBL campaign with a lot of confidence.

“In India, I just think how calm the environment is in the Aussie set-up at the moment was really nice,” Dwarshuis said. “It was easy to slide in and be clear on your roles and execute. Going to India, the powerhouses of T20 cricket, and putting in a few good performances there a few weeks out from the BBL let me start the tournament with plenty of confidence. Fortunately, I’ve been able to keep that form going. One more game, and hopefully it keeps going.”

Ben Dwarshuis Picked Up His Best Figures In 105 BBL Games

The 29-year-old left-arm seamer picked up figures of 3.5-0-21-5 against Brisbane Heat in the Qualifiers which is his personal best in his 105 BBL appearances. He has played three T20Is for Australia where he has picked five wickets at an average of 22.4 and a Best figures of 3/40. Ben Dwarshuis has taken 16 wickets in 10 games in the BBL this season at an average of 15.38.

Sydney Sixers will now host the finals at their home ground and now they will get four days to prepare for the summit clash whereas Brisbane Heat will get another opportunity to qualify for the finals as they will play in the challenger round. Perth Scorchers and Adelaide Strikers will face off against each other in the knockout match on Saturday and the winner will face Brisbane Heat in the Challenger round.

Perth Scorchers are the defending champions and they are the most successful team in the competition with five BBL trophies whereas Adelaide Strikers have won the title just once in 2017-18 when Travis Head led the side to the title. It will be an interesting battle between Strikers and Scorchers for a spot to face Brisbane Heat in the Challenger round.
