Young England leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed lauded Ben Foakes following his exceptional performance behind the stumps in the second Test of the five-match series in India. Rehan Ahmed described Ben Foakes as the best wicketkeeper ever in cricket history.

Ben Foakes made a comeback for England in the series opener against India after being excluded from last year’s Ashes. Following Harry Brook’s withdrawal due to personal reasons opened up the opportunity for Foakes to reclaim the wicketkeeping duties.

Foakes showcased exceptional skills in the first two Tests, particularly impressing with his catching abilities in Vishakhapatnam. The Surrey wicketkeeper claimed six dismissals, including two remarkable catches from Ahmed’s deliveries during the second Test match.

Ben Foakes Is The Best Keeper In The World – Rehan Ahmed

Rehan Ahmed was impressed with Ben Foakes‘ dedication and skill, highlighting his unmatched ability to consistently perform even under challenging conditions.

“Ben Foakes is a joke. I reckon he is the best keeper in the world, ever. I have never seen anyone as good as him,” Rehan said.

“He trains so hard. I just don’t see him miss a ball. I can’t even explain how good he is. A couple of those catches [in the second Test] he took 80-90 overs into the game. It’s very hot, it’s humid and he is still taking those types of catches,” he added.

We Just Focus On What We Need To Do – Rehan Ahmed

Rehan Ahmed has shown promising performance, taking eight wickets across the two red-ball matches in the ongoing series. He picked up six wickets in the second Test match. The 19-year-old also contributed with the bat, scoring 70 runs at an average of 17.65.

Ahmed attributed the team’s success to Captain Stokes, emphasizing the supportive environment created within the squad. He highlighted Stokes and Brendon McCullum’s positive mindset, focusing on the potential for success even in challenging situations.

“Tommy and Bash, you’ve seen them come in and not be nervous and that’s a credit to the team. The environment and the leadership we have, it does make you kind of forget the players you are playing against – we just focus on what we need to do,” Rehan continued.

“They [Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum] just don’t care about how bad things can go. It’s always about what good you can get out of it. So if I bowl four bad balls and get a wicket, that’s better than bowling 16 good balls in a row.”

The Ben Stokes-led team failed to continue their winning streak as they suffered a 106-run loss in the recent Test match against India. The visiting team was bowled out for 292 runs in the fourth and final innings while chasing a target of 399 runs in Vishakhapatnam.

During the break before the third Test, England traveled to the U.A.E. for relaxation before returning to India shortly. The England team is currently evaluating the fitness of left-arm spinner Jack Leach, who was sidelined from the last match due to a knee injury.
