Ben Sears Added To New Zealand Squad As Cover For Kyle Jamieson For Bangladesh ODIs
New Zealand seamer Kylie Jamieson experienced stiffness in his left hamstring after traveling back to New Zealand from Bangladesh. As a precautionary measure, Ben Sears is set to join the BlackCaps’ ODI Squad in Dunedin as cover for Kyle Jamieson. The Test squad returned to New Zealand on Tuesday evening and Jamieson then flew to Dunedin on Thursday. Dunedin will host the first ODI between New Zealand and Bangladesh.
The Kiwis’ head coach Gary Stead referred to this selection of Ben Sears as a ‘precautionary’ measure. Ben Sears is yet to make his debut in ODI cricket but has featured in the squad previously sharing the dressing room with other Kiwis.
“We’re taking a cautious approach with Kyle. We don’t want to rush or push him back, particularly at the very start of our home summer. He could play if absolutely necessary but we don’t want to take any unnecessary risks, hence calling in Ben for this first match. Ben’s familiar with the team environment and it’s been good to see him back at full fitness for the Firebirds,” said coach Gary Stead.
New Zealand To Host Bangladesh For Three ODIs And Three T20Is
Bangladesh will play three ODIs and three T20Is in New Zealand after hosting the Kiwis for a two-match Test series in Bangladesh. The Test series between the two nations was drawn 1-1 and now Bangladesh will look forward to performing against an in-form New Zealand side. Tom Latham will lead the Blackcaps with players like Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Tim Southee, and Trent Boult not being available for the series.
The T20I squad for New Zealand is yet to be announced meanwhile the bowling attack in ODIs will have Adam Milne, Kyle Jamieson, Jacob Duffy, and leg-spinners Ish Sodhi and Adithya Ashok. The Bangladesh squad will be led by Najmul Hossain Shanto with senior players like Soumya Sarkar, Mustafizur Rahman, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Litton Das present in the squad.
The Blackcaps won the ODI series in Bangladesh defeating the hosts 2-0 and now Bangladesh will be seeking revenge. However, New Zealand have a terrific record at home and will not leave any chance of dominating Bangladesh.
