England Test skipper Ben Stokes revealed that he had a chat with his wife when he was informed about veteran pacer Stuart Broad’s retirement from international cricket. Ben Stokes admitted that his wife Clare wasn’t pleased with Stuart Broad’s decision to retire from Test cricket.
Stuart Broad made an announcement on Saturday that the fifth and final Test of the Ashes 2023 would be his last international appearance. The right-arm pacer made his farewell match special by picking up the last wicket in Australia’s innings to help the team register a 49-run victory.

She Doesn’t Have That Anymore – Ben Stokes
Speaking at his post-match press conference, Ben Stokes emphasized how Stuart Broad had been instrumental in ensuring his safety from a heavy night out during his cricketing career.
“You know he announced his retirement and I told my wife that this was going to be his last game.
“She was like, ‘Oh, Broady is the one who messages me saying that Ben’s got home safe after a good night out’. So she doesn’t have that anymore, So it’s going to be someone else,” Stokes said.
The hosts bowled out the opposition for 334 runs while defending a target of 384 runs at The Oval in London on Monday, July 31. Chris Woakes was the chief architect behind the destruction, picking up four wickets for 50 runs in Australia’s second innings.
Stuart Broad Finished His Legendary Career
Stuart Broad played in all six matches during the English summer, including the one-off Test against Ireland. The pacer finished as the leading wicket-taker for England in the Ashes series, picking up 22 wickets in five matches at an average of 28.41, with his best figures being 4-65.
The 37-year-old achieved the milestone of 600 wickets during the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester, becoming only the second pacer after Jimmy Anderson and the fifth bowler overall to reach this feat. He concluded his international career with 604 wickets in 167 Tests.
