England National Cricket Team skipper Ben Stokes has dropped a colossal statement on the India National Cricket Team pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the upcoming five-match Test series.
Ben Stokes said that Team England are not afraid of Jasprit Bumrah and raised questions over his ability to win the Test series for India in England single-handedly.
Jasprit Bumrah to miss two Tests against England
The Test series opener between India and England will be hosted by Headingley in Leeds from Friday, June 20.
Bumrah is highly likely to feature in the playing XI in the first Test, and then he would be missing two out of the remaining four matches of the series.
Jasprit Bumrah playing only three out of five matches in England was confirmed by the chief selector Ajit Agarkar at the time of the squad announcement, and the pacer himself spoke about it, stating that his surgeon and medical team have advised him to be smarter while managing his back.
Meanwhile, the 31-year-old Jasprit Jasbirsingh Bumrah has played 9 Test matches in England, and he has bagged 37 wickets at an average of 26.27, an economy of 2.72, and a strike rate of 57.8.
We know his class and what he brings - Ben Stokes on India star Jasprit Bumrah
In an interaction with the reporters ahead of the first Test, Ben Stokes acknowledged Bumrah's class but bluntly said that they don't fear the premier pacer.
England captain added that Jasprit Bumrah can't win the five-match Test series single-handedly for India.
"No fear,” Stokes said ahead of the 1st Test match in Headingley, as quoted by India Today. "In international cricket, you come up against quality opposition all the time. We know his class and what he brings to any team he plays for, but in terms of fear, definitely not.
“I don’t think one bowler alone is going to win the series for either team. All 11 [players] have to stand up. I don’t think there is just one person in either team holding the key to success,” the England captain added.
All I want to do is give my heart and soul to English cricket - Ben Stokes
In another interaction, Ben Stokes said that England are fully focused on the series against India and don't have one eye on the Ashes Down Under.
"Absolutely not. I don't need to go into too much detail around answering that because that's a very speculative thing to say," Stokes said with a dismissive laugh as quoted by ΤΟΙ.
Stokes also said that he wants to give it all for England cricket during his time as skipper and win as many matches as possible. He said:
"I know where I want to push this team. We have gone well, but we want to aim for the top. All I want to do is give my heart and soul to English cricket and win as many games as possible."
