Bengaluru Police release an official statement on Virat Kohli's arrest proceedings

Bengaluru Police have officially confirmed that no FIR has been filed against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) icon Virat Kohli related to the tragic stampede outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, which claimed 11 lives and left several others injured on June 4.
However, the Bengaluru Police confirmed that a complaint was lodged against Virat Kohli by social activist HM Venkatesh at Cubbon Park Police Station.
Complaint filed against Virat Kohli over Bengaluru stampede
Venkatesh accused Kohli of "promoting gambling through the IPL" and blamed him for indirectly provoking the massive crowd that had gathered to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru's historic maiden IPL title win.

The social activist has further claimed that the IPL is “not a sport but gambling that has contaminated the game of cricket.”
As reported by the ANI, the complaint reads, “Virat Kohli of the Bangalore RCB team is the most prominent among those who participated in such gambling and incited people to gather in a specific place and caused this tragedy. Therefore, we request you to please make Virat Kohli and his team members accused in the FIR of this tragedy and take action.”
No FIR against Virat Kohli in Bengaluru stampede case
However, the Bengaluru police clarified that they received the complaint, but no FIR has been registered against the former Indian captain. The matter is under preliminary review as part of the broader investigation into the heartbreaking incident in Bengaluru.
The police official stated, “The complaint will be examined as part of the ongoing investigation under an already registered case.”

KSCA top officials resign after RCB celebration stampede kills 11 innocents
Meanwhile, in the wake of the tragic stampede that took place during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2025 victory celebration, two senior officials from the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) have stepped down, accepting moral responsibility for the heartbreaking incident.
According to the Indian Express, KSCA Secretary A. Shankar and Treasurer E. S. Jairam announced their resignations through a joint statement. Their decision comes just days after the tragic stampede that killed 11 people and injured several outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
They submitted the resignations after both KSCA and RCB approached the Karnataka High Court seeking relief in connection with the FIRs filed regarding the incident. The statement reads, “Though our role was very limited, in light of the unforeseen and unfortunate events that have unfolded, we have tendered our resignations to the President of KSCA.”
Bengaluru Police nab 4 in stampede case
On the other hand, Bengaluru police arrested four people for their suspected role in the incident. Those arrested include Nikhil Sosale, RCB’s head of marketing, and Sunil Mathew, Sumanth, and Kiran Kumar, who work for DNA Entertainment Private Limited, the company that helped organize the event in Bengaluru.
Police caught all four at Kempegowda International Airport while they were reportedly trying to leave the city. They were later presented in court and sent to 14 days of judicial custody as investigations into the tragic stampede.
