Bhuvneshwar Kumar finally reveals what makes Rohit Sharma a successful captain

India's swing maestro Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been the team’s pace bowling leader and delivered several match-winning performances under both captains Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. However, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been out of the Indian cricket team since 2022.
The veteran swing bowler, who dominates with both swing and variation, will soon be seen in action for the Lucknow Falcons team in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh T20 League 2025, which will get underway on Sunday, August 17.
Ahead of the Lucknow Falcons’ season opener against the Noida Super Kings on August 18, Bhuvneshwar has opened up about the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, who is now only active in ODI cricket. Rohit has already called time on his T20I and Test careers.

However, the Hitman remains India’s ODI captain and is eyeing extending his international career till the ICC World Cup 2027 in South Africa and Zimbabwe. The swing king praised Rohit as a captain who knows how to bring the best out of his players.
He pointed out that the Indian skipper understands each player’s strengths and uses them wisely on the field. Bhuvneshwar also mentioned that they shared a great bond, and Rohit talks to him and other players like a normal friend, which makes the atmosphere in the team even more comfortable.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar said on the Lucknow Falcons podcast, “Rohit Sharma is a mature captain who knows how to use his players and how to bring out the best of his players. He understands each player's strengths & uses them well. He also talks to me like a normal friend.”

Rohit Sharma's captaincy record
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma’s journey as India’s captain has been remarkable. He has so far led the Indian cricket team in 142 matches across formats and built an impressive record. Out of these, India has won 103 games under his captaincy and lost 33.
His captaincy has seen three draws, while the two matches ended without a result. In Test cricket, Rohit has captained India in 24 matches, winning 12 and losing 9. In T20I cricket, Rohit has led India in 62 matches and guided them to 49 wins.
With only 12 losses, Rohit’s win percentage stands at a staggering 74.41%, one of the best in modern cricket. On the other hand, Bhuvneshwar represented India in 21 Tests, 121 ODIs, and 87 T20Is, and scalped 63, 141, and 90 wickets, respectively. He also has over 1200 runs in international cricket to his name.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar reveals bond with Virat Kohli
Meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar Kumar also opened up about his bond with Virat Kohli. They recently shared the RCB dressing room and won the IPL trophy earlier this year.
The seasoned seamer revealed that he and Virat mostly talked about their family and personal life off the field, but once they took the field, it was all about cricket.
Bhuvneshwar said, “When I and Virat meet, we mostly talk about family, but on the field we are professional & committed to cricket during IPL.”
