According to the latest reports from India vs Sri Lanka T20I series, Bhuvneshwar Kumar might be the skipper of the team in the remaining two T20I matches. Sri Lanka vs India 2nd T20I match was postponed after Krunal Pandya was found covid-19 positive. Now, reports suggest that 8 players from the Indian squad have been sent into strict isolation. These 8 players were in close contact with Krunal Pandya and hence the step has been taken.

These 8 players are Shikhar Dhawan, Hardik Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, Suryakumar Yadav, Prithvi Shaw, Manish Pandey, Krishnappa Gowtham, and Ishan Kishan. Hence, due to strict isolation, these players might not be able to play in the rest two T20I games, slated to be played today (Wednesday) and tomorrow (Thursday).

Bhuvneshwar Kumar To Lead Team In Next Two T20Is Against Sri Lanka: Reports

Since Shikhar Dhawan is also part of this list of isolated players, he might not be able to lead the team in the next two matches. Hence, the vice-captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar might be given a chance to lead the team. The Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked 4 wickets for 22 runs in Sri Lanka vs India 1st T20I and also won the player of the match award.

Other than Kumar, the players who are not sent in strict isolation and will be available to be part of the playing XI in the 2nd and 3rd T20Is are Sanju Samson, Deepak Chahar, Varun Chakravarthy, Manish Pandey, Kuldeep Yadav, Nitish Rana, Navdeep Saini, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rahul Chahar, Devdutt Padikkal, and Chetan Sakariya.

Meanwhile, Krunal Pandya has been sent to a different hotel after contacting Covid-19. While the rest of the team has stayed in Colombo. The Indian squad will travel back to India on July 30, however, Pandya will not travel with the Indian contingent. After 2 weeks of quarantine, he will be tested for RT-PCR and will take a flight after a negative report.

India defeated Sri Lanka in the 1st T20I by 38 runs. Earlier, India also defeated Sri Lanka in the ODI series 2-1. India outplayed Sri Lanka in the first two ODIs. However, Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka made a comeback in the 3rd ODI and won the match by 3 wickets. Now, with the absence of crucial 8 players, India might face a huge challenge in the rest of the T20I series.
