Rohit Sharma Set to Join the Indian Test Squad on this date
Rohit Sharma’s departure to Australia was delayed due to the birth of his second child, but he has now confirmed to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that he will join the Indian squad on November 24, the third day of the first Test in Perth, according to the latest report by Cricbuzz.
"While some reports suggested that he would be in Perth much before the first Test, which starts on Friday (November 22) morning, it was always clear that he would delay his journey. I Spoke With Rohit Earlier - Jasprit Bumrah
The first Test between India and Australia is scheduled to be played at the Optus Stadium in Perth, starting on Friday, November 22. Pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah will captain the Indian team for the first Test match in Rohit's absence. KL Rahul might open the innings for Team India in Perth in Rohit's place.
Jasprit Bumrah, who will captain India in the first Test in Rohit Sharma's absence, said that he has been in touch with the regular skipper. Bumrah said that he got more clarity on leading the team once he arrived in Perth for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
"I spoke with Rohit earlier. But I got a little bit of clarity on leading the side after coming in here," Bumrah said in the press conference on the eve of the start of Perth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Rohit Sharma to Be Included in Playing XI for Second Test
Rohit's captaincy faced criticism after India's 3-0 loss to New Zealand, where he scored 91 runs in six innings. He has scored 4,270 runs in 64 Tests at an average of 42.27, including 12 centuries and 18 fifties. However, he has had an underwhelming performance in Australia, with 408 runs at an average of 31.38.
The 37-year-old is expected to return to the playing XI for the second Test, a day-and-night match, in Adelaide, which is scheduled to begin on December 6. He will look to improve his record in Australia during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
