The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and its fans have received major relief ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026), starting on March 28. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will kick off their campaign against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Bengaluru.
The big news is that the famous M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru has officially received permission from the government of Karnataka to host IPL 2026 matches.
RCB cleared to host IPL 2026 matches at M Chinnaswamy Stadium
The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium cleared to host the IPL 2026 matches on Monday, March 16 as reported by Deccan Herald. The decision came after an important meeting between the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and the state authorities.

The final approval was given after discussions with Karnataka’s Home Minister G. Parameshwara, as the stadium is ready to welcome thousands of fans for the five home matches of this season of RCB.
The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium authorities recently gave a detailed presentation to the state government’s expert committee, explaining all the new security upgrades that have been introduced before the tournament begins.
Officials from the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) shared complete information about the improvements made inside and outside the stadium. The main focus was on better crowd control, stronger security arrangements, and smoother entry and exit for fans during the match days.
KSCA conducts mock drill to test crowd control and emergency preparedness
Interestingly, a large mock drill was also organized at the stadium last week to make sure everything works perfectly before the tournament. The exercise reportedly lasted for around two and a half hours in the morning, starting from 9:30 am and ending at noon.
More than 50 people took part in the inspection and emergency simulation to check how the security teams would handle large crowds and any possible situation during the matches.
Expanded gates and new entries added
One of the biggest changes made at the stadium is the expansion of entry gates. Authorities have widened several gates so that thousands of fans can enter the ground more easily without long delays. Additionally, a few new gates have also been added on Cubbon Road to manage the heavy flow of supporters expected during the upcoming IPL 2026.
These upgrades have been made as the RCB are all set to play five of their seven home matches at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium this season. Apart from the league matches, the venue will also host one of the playoff games and even the final of the tournament.
Fans likely to get free Metro rides for IPL 2026 matches in Bengaluru
On the other hand, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited and the management of the RCB are currently in discussions about a special plan for fans during the upcoming IPL 2026 season.
It is being said that they are exploring the idea of giving free Metro rides to match ticket holders travelling to and from the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru for the RCB games.
A Moneycontrol report reads: “BMRCL and RCB management are discussing a proposal to offer IPL match ticket holders a sponsored round-trip Metro journey between any Metro station and Cubbon Park Metro Station, the closest station to the stadium. If it materialises, fans can scan QR code on their match ticket-both digital and physical-at Namma Metro's Automatic Fare Collection System (AFC) gates.”
