It was Travis Head’s comeback match in ODI cricket, but he failed miserably in the three-match ODI series opener between Australia and Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club, Harare.
Brad Evans bowled a length delivery that moved slightly away after pitching. Head saw the ball moving across him and decided to play a cut shot towards the off side. But the Australian opener made the poor call, as he was not in a great position to play the shot.
Instead of moving his feet towards the ball, Head stayed mostly inside his crease and tried to play the shot with his hands. The ball was also angled across him, making the shot even more difficult. The ball took the edge of his bat and went back onto the stumps, resulting in a chopped-on dismissal.
Interestingly, Evans changed his line slightly and bowled closer to the stumps. The move paid off immediately as Head tried to attack through the off-side but ended up chopping the ball back onto his stumps, and Zimbabwe got what they wanted. Head was sent back to the pavilion for just 4.

Jason Gillespie issues warning over Travis Head’s repeated dismissals
Reacting to the left-handed batter’s blunder, former Australian cricketer Jason Gillespie pointed out that getting Head out this way is becoming a regular pattern.
He highlighted how opposition bowlers are increasingly finding success by bowling across Head, who is playing his first ODI series in 2026, and forcing him into risky shots outside the off stump.
Gillespie said on the Fox Cricket broadcast: “This is becoming quite a common dismissal for Travis Head.”
It was Head’s fourth straight international innings ending with a chopped-on dismissal. The repeated pattern has now become a major talking point among the fans and cricket experts, with bowlers finding a way to exploit Australia’s dangerous batter’s weakness outside the off stump.
