Sunrisers Hyderabad assistant coach Brad Haddin opened up about David Warner’s omission from the team in IPL 2021.

Things didn’t seem to go well between the Australian player and his franchise in the final games of the tournament as Warner was dropped from the team and was seen cheering for them from the stands.

David Warner axed from SRH captaincy role in IPL 2021

SRH had a very poor season in IPL 2021 as the Orange Army finished at the foot of the points table, having won only three matches from 14 games. Warner was replaced with New Zealand’s Kane Williamson as the team’s captain in the middle of the tournament.

Warner made 195 runs from eight games in IPL 2021, with his performance in the second leg wasn’t matching the level of his potential.

David Warner was out of match practice: Brad Haddin

Coming into the second leg of IPL 2021, Warner had not played a single competitive cricket match and also opted out from the tours of the West Indies and Bangladesh.

Haddin said it was the lack of match practise which had led the team management to drop him, although he was showing good intent in the net practice sessions.

“I tell you what it was not a cricket decision that he was not playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad. I think the one thing you have to realise with David is that he was not out of form, he was out of match practice. They had a long break; he did not go to Bangladesh or West Indies. But he turned up in really good headspace. He was hitting the ball well, circumstances were out of our control, even the coaching staff,” said Haddin on the Grade Cricketers Podcast.

“But it was not because he was out of form. All he needed was some match time, he was hitting the ball well. He just needed to spend some time in the middle to get the rhythm again. As the tournament went on, you have seen his class. He got a bit of rhythm back into his game and he was good to watch,” he added.

Warner scored 289 runs in Australia’s triumphant campaign of the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2021 and was also awarded as the player of the tournament.
