West Indies opening batter Brandon King has been ruled out for the remainder of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 after suffering an injury during the Super Eight match against England. All-rounder Kyle Mayers has been named as a replacement for Brandon King in the West Indies World Cup squad.
Brandon King sustained a side strain injury while batting against England in St Lucia on Wednesday, June 19. The right-handed batter retired hurt after scoring 23 runs off 13 balls, including three boundaries and a six. He didn't return to the field for the rest of the match, which the West Indies lost by eight wickets.
The 29-year-old started with 34 runs in the West Indies' close victory against Papua New Guinea. However, his form declined in the subsequent matches in the group stage. The opening batter registered scores of 13, 9, and 7. King scored 86 runs in five matches at an average of 21.50 and a strike rate of 126.47.

"The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 has approved left-handed batter Kyle Mayers as a replacement for Brandon King in the West Indies squad. The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the player can be officially added to the squad," ICC said in a statement.
