KKR goes through another disastrous season
Pietersen strongly believes that after leaving the England cricket team’s job, the former New Zealand opener, who played for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as well in the IPL, will join the KKR camp again, but this time as the head coach.
Ahead of the IPL 2026 season, Kolkata Knight Riders appointed Abhishek Nayar as their head coach. Under the guidance of Nayar, the multiple-time IPL-winning franchise failed to qualify for the play-offs as they had to endure a long losing streak in the first half of the IPL 2026 group stage.
The team tried to make a comeback; they claimed multiple wins as well, but it was not enough for them to secure a place in the top four of the points table. As soon as the season ended for the team, it was reported that the franchise would review the performance of the entire team, including the coach.

During the recent interview, when Brendon McCullum was describing their preparations for the Ashes and what their mentality was before the tournament, he mentioned that he planned to finish the job that they started.
“The period of reflection post-Ashes has actually been pretty good to get some clarity around some of those things as well. From my point of view, I was always very keen to finish the job that we started,” McCullum told the media.
