CAB To Conduct Bengal T20 Challenge In September Ahead Of The Domestic Season

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) is going to organize a six-team Bengal T20 Challenge tournament starting from the first week of September for preparing the players for the domestic season which will start from September 20.

In its apex council meeting, the CAB also decided that it would start the one-day tournaments in November, followed by first and second Division Leagues.

Avishek Dalmiya is the current CAB President. He was inducted in the role in 2020 after former CAB boss Sourav Ganguly became the BCCI President.

“This edition would comprise six CAB teams and would be used as a preparatory tournament ahead of the domestic season,” CAB said in a statement on Saturday.

“If COVID-19 situation in the country remains under control, then the first and second Division Leagues would be held from the month of December,” the statement added.

The CAB further revealed that the West Bengal government has agreed to provide 14 acres of land in Dumurjala on 99 years lease, as requested by CAB.

“The association will take steps for execution of the agreement,” it added.

BCCI announced domestic season 2021/22; Ranji Trophy returns

The BCCI is going to conduct a full domestic season this year after being forced to reduce tournaments, including the Ranji Trophy, last time around due to the pandemic. Now the Ranji Trophy also makes its return.

The season will commence with the Women’s Under-19 One-Day and Vinoo Mankad Trophy (Men’s Under-19) from September 20 to October 18.

White-ball tournaments, Syed Mushtaq Ali Twenty20 Trophy will be played from October 27 to November 22, and The Vijay Hazare One-day Championship will run from December 1 to 29.

The Ranji Trophy will be held from January 5 to March 20, although it can be changed given the condition of the pandemic in different states. The BCCI is working closely with the Government of India, and state regulatory authorities about the hosting of matches. Several other men’s, women’s, under-19, under-16 tournaments will also be held.
