Dewald Brevis has become the talk of the town after becoming the most expensive player in the history of SA20. The South Africa batsman was signed up by Pretoria Capitals in the recently concluded players' auction.
The Pretoria-based outfit signed up Brevis for a whopping R16.5 million. Joburg Super Kings opened the bidding for Brevis, who had a base price of R500,000. The Super Kings were involved in a bidding war with Paarl Royals up until the R10 million mark before the latter decided to opt out.
Pretoria Capitals then entered the bidding and were involved in a fierce contest with the Super Kings before finally making the winning bid.

Dewald Brevis joins Pretoria Capitals
With Dewald Brevis being signed up by Pretoria Capitals, speculations are rife that the batsman might join Delhi Capitals ahead of the next season of the IPL. Both the franchises are owned by JSW Group, and fans believe that the South Africa star could be tempted to join the Delhi-based franchise for a lucrative fee after joining Pretoria Capitals.
He is currently a part of the Chennai Super Kings in IPL. The highly-rated batsman had gone unsold in the last mega auction but was later signed up by CSK as an injury replacement.
Dewald Brevis to join Delhi Capitals? Legalities explained
Well, the scenario in which Dewald Brevis leaves CSK for the Delhi Capitals is not quite straightforward, but it is not impossible either. Brevis does have the option of joining the Delhi Capitals if he decides to part ways with CSK. There are two ways through which Delhi can acquire his services.
The first one is a trade deal. A trade can be an all-cash deal or a player-for-player swap. Ahead of the IPL 2024 season, the Mumbai Indians had signed up Hardik Pandya in an all-cash deal with the Gujarat Titans. Delhi Capitals can approach CSK for Brevis and can sign him if they get the green light from all the parties.

A player's consent is mandatory for a deal. At the same time, a franchise has the final say on whether the player stays with them or not.
The other option for a player is to leave the franchise and participate in the auction. However, it could prove risky since all the teams will have the opportunity to sign him.
