New Zealand batter Chad Bowes achieved a massive feat in the history of the List A cricket. The right-hander slammed the fastest double hundred in 50-over Cricket as he achieved the feat in just 103 balls, surpassing India's Narayan Jagadeesan and Australian Travis Head's records.
Bowes achieved the feat while playing for Canterbury against Otago in the Ford Trophy. The right-hander oozed his class with bat and played his best innings in the 50-over Cricket as he kept his team in the dominating position ever since he came to bat in the game.
Chad Bowes misses the fastest century record by 4 balls in the Ford tournament
Bowes, who wasn't named in the New Zealand team for the Sri Lanka tour, looked in the aggressive mood right from the start. He slammed a half-century in just 26 balls, and after that, he didn't look back at all, slamming bowlers all over the park with ease.
Bowes then went on to hit a magnificent century for the team. He slammed his ton in just 53 balls and fell short by four balls to match Ross Taylor's record (off 49 balls) for the fastest hundred in the competition. He then made sure that he doubled up his effort for the team.
Chad Bowes slams his double ton in 103 balls
Chad Bowes slammed his double ton in 103 balls. He went past Travis Head and N Jagadeesan, who reached their respective double hundreds in 114 balls. While the left-hander achieved the feat for South Australia against Queensland in the 2021-22 Marsh Cup, the Tamil Nadu batter did it during his record-breaking 277 against Arunachal Pradesh in the 2022 Vijay Hazare Trophy.
In what was his 100th List A game, Chad Bowes ended with an inning of 205 off 110 deliveries. He slammed 27 fours and seven sixes in his knock and thanks to his heroics, Canterbury posted a total of 343/ 9 after they were put in to bat at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. They then bundled out Otago for 103 to register a massive 240-run win.
Chad Bowes also became the first player in the history of the tournament since 2013 to slam a double. He became the first batter after Jamie How to score a double century in the tournament. The batter scored 222 for Central Stags in the 2012/13 edition of the tournament.
This was Bowes' highest score ever in the List A cricket. He went past his previous best of 126. The batter has also appeared for the New Zealand National Cricket Team in a few ODIs and T20 Internationals. He has slammed 99 runs in 6 ODIs and 187 runs in 11 20-over games.
