Sri Lanka batter Chamari Athapaththu entered the record books as she became the first women batter from Sri Lanka to attain the No.1 spot in the ICC ODI rankings. She achieved the feat after her sensational show in the WODI series against New Zealand.

Chamari Athapaththu kickstarted the three-match series against New Zealand with an unbeaten 108 runs ton. The second game was a disappointment for her as she bagged a golden duck. But she again was on the top in third game.

Chamari Athapaththu blasted unbeaten 140 runs in 80 balls. She smashed 9 big sixes along with 13 fours and helped Sri Lanka beat New Zealand in a bilateral women’s ODI series for the very first time in the history of the game.

Chamari Athapaththu displaced Australia’s Beth Mooney from the top spot after she scored 280 runs in just three games against New Zealand. She attained the No.1 ODI ranks, joining the great Sanath Jayasuriya as the only two players from their country to have held the No.1 spot in the history of the ODI rankings.

West Indies Stafanie Taylor climbs to No.9th spot in ICC ODI Rankings

Apart from Chamari Athapaththu , New Zealand’s Sophie Devine also jumped six places to attain the 13th spot on the list for ODI batters. The Kiwi skipper amassed 194 runs in the three games and made a significant rise.

In terms of the ranking for bowling, West Indies Stafanie Taylor moved up to the 9th spot following her heroics in the series against Ireland. Gaby Lewis too made a significant rise as she climbed up 5 spots to attain the 21st rank.
