Cheteshwar Pujara, who recently called time on his glorious career in all forms of cricket, has received a heartfelt letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Cheteshwar Pujara shared the letter on X, calling it an honor to receive appreciation from the Prime Minister.
Pujara said that he really values the warm wishes and the love he has received throughout his career. As he steps into his “second innings,” he reflected on the cherished memories from the field and thanked the Prime Minister for the recognition.

PM Narendra Modi hails Cheteshwar Pujara as the backbone of India’s Test team
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Cheteshwar Pujara’s remarkable journey, highlighting how his calm temperament and ability to bat for long hours made him the backbone of India’s Test team. Modi recalled unforgettable moments, especially Pujara’s heroic efforts in Australia that helped India to register its historic first-ever Test series win in 2018-19.

PM Modi hailed the former right-handed batter’s passion for the game, mentioning how he kept playing first-class cricket for Saurashtra and abroad, ensuring his roots stayed strong while also putting Rajkot, Gujarat, on the cricketing map.
Narendra Modi wrote in his letter, “I convey my heartiest congratulations and warmest greetings on a spectacular cricketing career. In an age dominated by shorter formats of cricket, you were a reminder of the beauty of the longer format of the game. Your unflappable temperament and ability to bat long hours with great concentration made you the fulcrum of the Indian batting lineup.”
Furthermore, the Prime Minister admired the role of Pujara’s father, who was both a mentor and former cricketer, and appreciated the sacrifices of his wife, Puja, and daughter, Aditi, who stood by him throughout his demanding career at the highest level.

Modi also lauded Pujara’s smooth transition into his second innings as a commentator, where his detailed insights continue to “add great value to cricket enthusiasts.” Ending on a warm note, PM Modi wished Pujara the very best for the future.
He signed off by saying, “I am confident that you will keep yourself associated with the game and inspire budding cricketers. Best wishes for your journey ahead.”
Notably, apart from over 7100 test runs for India, Pujara also played 30 matches in the IPL and scored 390 runs at an average of 20.52 and one half-century to his name.
He was a legendary batter in First-Class cricket, where he amassed 21,301 runs in 278 matches at an average of 51.06. Pujara finished his first-class cricket career with 66 centuries and 81 half-centuries to his name.
