Cheteshwar Pujara Says, "I Had A Great Time Playing For Sussex, And I'm Glad To Be Able To Contribute"

Sussex recovered from a batting slump to draw their County Championship Division 2 game against Derbyshire on Sunday, thanks to Cheteshwar Pujara’s classy unbeaten double ton.

Pujara, who made his Sussex debut just a few days ago, revived himself after scoring just six runs in the first inning by hitting 201* in 387 balls.

The veteran Indian batter enjoyed his Sussex debut and expressed his delight at being able to contribute to the team’s cause.
“I had a great time playing for @sussexccc for the first time. I’m glad I was able to help the team’s cause. “I’m excited about the next game,” Pujara said on the KOO app.

Along with Pujara, Tom Haines hit a double century as the pair shared a 351-run stand in 119 overs, a Sussex record for any wicket against Derbyshire before the match was drawn.

Sussex secured a draw over Derbyshire in the 2022 County Championship on Sunday, courtesy of veteran Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara’s undefeated double century in the second innings.

Pujara, on his Sussex debut, was knocked for 6 off 15 balls during his first innings on the second day, as Sussex was dismissed for 174 in 56.3 overs in response to Derbyshire’s 505.

The Indian, on the other hand, put on a fantastic performance in his second innings, smashing an unbeaten 201 not out off 387 balls. His inning featured 23 fours to the fence.

Sussex were 513 for three in 176.1 overs when the match finished in a tie after he had a 351-run third-wicket partnership with skipper Tom Haines (243).

Yorkshire, Derbyshire, and Nottinghamshire are among the counties Pujara has previously represented.
