Cheteshwar Pujara's name has been floating around a lot in the news ever since Shubman Gill got injured
Cheteshwar Pujara's name has been floating around a lot in the news ever since Shubman Gill got injured. The young batter fractured his thumb while taking a catch during the match simulation and reportedly has been ruled out of the upcoming first Test against the Australia National Cricket Team.
This has seen many rising calls to include Cheteshwar Pujara in the Indian team for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. This was because the batter played a massive role for the team during the last two tours to Australia and helped the team script history by winning both series.
Cheteshwar Pujara was the main factor behind India's historic 2018/19 series win in Australia. He was Player of the Series as he scored 521 runs in four Tests at 74.42. In the next series, he was the wall for the Indian team in batting. The batter took a lot of blows on the body and allowed batters around to score runs freely.
Cheteshwar Pujara's last appearance came for India during the ICC World Test Championship final 2023
Cheteshwar Pujara's last appearance came for India during the ICC World Test Championship final 2023. After that, he hasn't featured for the team in the format. After he was dropped, Shubman Gill took the No.3 spot and has been batting pretty well in the format, scoring runs at crucial phases for the team.
Shubman Gill, who has hit over 800 runs in Test cricket, will be missing the Perth Test. This comes as a massive blow to the India National Cricket Team, as his absence will leave a massive void in the team. He has a decent record in Australian conditions and will be key for his team in the series.
Devdutt Padikkal likely to bat at No.3 during Perth Test
In his absence, it is reported that Indian team management has asked Devdutt Padikkal to stay back. The young batter was part of the India A squad and looked in decent touch in A games. The reports claimed that he is likely to bat at No.3 in the opening game.
It remains to be seen who will be the Indian team batting at No.3 in the first Test against the Australia National Cricket Team. India also will be without the services of Rohit Sharma in the opening game as he is still in India. In his absence, Jasprit Bumrah is likely to captain the team.
