The veteran England National Cricket Team all-rounder Chris Woakes has given some good news to the team management ahead of the Ashes 2025-26.
The upcoming edition of the Ashes is all set to start on November 21, 2025, at the Perth Stadium, and the series finale is scheduled to be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 4, 2026.
Chris Woakes suffered a severe injury during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy
Senior English all-rounder Woakes suffered an injury to his left shoulder on Day 1 of the fifth Test match against the India National Cricket Team at the Kennington Oval in London.
The unfortunate incident happened in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 during India's first innings of the final Test. While fielding in the 57th over, Chris Woakes chased a ball from mid-off towards the boundary and put in a dive to pull the ball back just inside the ropes.
It turned out to be a dangerous dive for the all-rounder as his hand slipped on the damp outfield, and he landed awkwardly. Things looked horrific in the middle as the all-rounder was in significant pain.
Phyiso Ben Davies rushed onto the field to provide help to Chris Woakes and took him back to the dressing room for treatment before the ECB stated that the all-rounder had suffered a shoulder dislocation and will miss the remainder of the game.
But he showcased great courage and walked out to bat as a No.11 player with his arm in a sling in the fourth innings. And although he didn't face any balls, he ran between the wickets to provide assistance to Gus Atkinson. However, England still lost the thrilling Test by 6 runs.
Certainly good news for me - Chris
Earlier this month, in an interaction with the BBC Sport, Woakes said that he was unsure whether to undergo surgery or go for rehabilitation, with eyes on the Ashes.
Now, in an interaction on Sky Sports, Chris Woakes said that he is taking a non-surgical route as he is not required to go under the knife. He said:
"Certainly good news for me. That's the best way to look at it. Obviously, out of the sling, and I feel like I can move it a lot better now, which is good two weeks down the line.
"I suppose once you get a little bit more movement into it, it feels a little bit more normal. But there's still a lot of work to do. I'm going to try and stay focused on the rehab and get it as strong as possible. Ideally, I won't need surgery for now, but we'll see how that goes and hopefully we can get it nice and strong again."
