Chris Woakes Brutally Trolls Angelo Mathews After AvoIding To Get Timed Out vs Netherlands In World Cup 2023

The England Vs Netherlands match at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 saw a real-life spoof of the Angelo Mathews ‘timed out’ controversy. When English all-rounder Chris Woakes came onto bat at No.6 he took a cheeky dig at the whole Shakib-Mathews controversy.

For those who don’t know, Angelo Mathews became the first player in the history of ODI Cricket to be dismissed ‘timed out’. However, the dismissal was controversial as the veteran Sri Lankan cricketer had reached his crease before the time limit of two minutes was allowed but still hadn’t taken his guard.

However, Angelo Mathews had an equipment failure with his helmet strap coming off. As soon as he called for a new helmet indicating towards the dressing room, one of the Bangladesh team members approached Shakib Al Hasan and said that if he appealed for a wicket then Mathews would be out according to the law. The umpires gave it out after Shakib Al Hasan refused to take back the appeal despite Mathews’ request. Angelo Mathews was furious about this decision. He openly criticized the Bangladesh Team and Shakib Al Hasan and also vented out on Social Media.

Now, in the England Vs Netherlands match, Chris Woakes had a similar equipment failure with his helmet being damaged. Keeping the recent Angelo Mathews and Shakib Al Hasan controversy in mind, he immediately rushed to the umpires to show that his helmet was damaged. He was seen laughing after this and it was quite evident that this was a hilarious dig at the whole ‘timed out’ controversy.

England registered their second win in this World Cup as they posted a huge total of 339/9 against the Dutch. Ben Stokes scored a brilliant century scoring 108 off just 84 deliveries. Dawid Malan also contributed with his 87 off 74 deliveries. In response, the Netherlands were bundled for 179 and England won the match by 160 runs.

England is now in the eighth position in the points table which means that they are in the qualification range for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. However, they still have one match left to play against Pakistan. If they manage to win the game then will have a good chance of securing the spot. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and the Netherlands are also competing for the same.
