England National Cricket Team batting coach Marcus Trescothick will not be part of the third Test against the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. As per the reports in ESPNCricinfo, it is learned that he will be taking a short break before his interim white-ball head coach stint against Australia at home.

Marcus Trescothick was appointed as the interim white-ball head coach of the England National Cricket Team after Matthew Mott stepped down from the post. Trescothick was given the responsibility of the team for the ODI and the T20I series against the Australia National Cricket Team as the ECB looks for a permanent coach.

In place of Marcus Trescothick, Andrew Flintoff will take over the role of the England National Cricket Team for the third game against the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. The former all-rounder has been part of the team's white-ball coaching set-up and was also with the team in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Andrew Flintoff, however, won't be part of the team for the white-ball series against Australia. There were reports that his relationship with Jos Buttler wasn't great during the T20 World Cup 2024 and hence he won't be given the longer rope with the team in the white-ball setup going ahead.

Andrew Flintoff will likely link up with the squad for the third Test on Wednesday for the first of two training days and will be part of Brendon McCullum's staff throughout the third Test. He will only be part of the third Test and it is unlikely that he will feature on the winter tours of Pakistan and New Zealand.

Marcus Trescothick will be having a few days off after the ongoing second Test against Sri Lanka under at Lord’s. He will then be linking up with the white-ball squad ahead of the first T20I against Australia at the Utilita Bowl near Southampton, to be played on September 11.

Trescothick will be having the same support staff as that of Matthew Mott. For the white-ball series against the Australia National Cricket Team, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) also added Under-19s coach Michael Yardy.

I'll see how much I enjoy doing the head coach's role and then go from there - Marcus Trescothick on applying for the white-ball head coach's role permanently

Marcus Trescothick was recently asked about applying for the white-ball head coach's role permanently. Replying to this, he stated that he is focused on the Test team but will be seeing how his stint goes in the Australia series before taking a decision. Speaking to Sky Sports, he explained:

"I'm still very focused on the batting stuff with the Test team. I'm going to let this play out and see what happens for this period of time, and see how much I enjoy doing the head coach's role and then go from there really. I'm quite open to the idea of seeing what's going to happen," he concluded.
