Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim and spinner Mehidy Hasan have been the reasons behind Bangladesh going up 2-0 in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka in the island nation. Rahim has been amazing with the bat, rescuing the Tiger’s innings in both the matches, while Mehidy Hasan has been amongst wickets.
Bangladesh had won the first ODI against Sri Lanka in Dhaka by 33 runs on May 23 and the second ODI match by 103 runs via D/L method on May 25.
When He Is Running, Come In Front Of Him: Mushfiqur Rahim To Mehidy Hasan
Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored 125 off 127 balls that helped his team win the second ODI and series against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, saw his century get outshined by dubious conduct on the field.
When Sri Lanka’s no.3 batsman Pathum Nissanka was at the crease, the former Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim was heard on the stump mic instructing bowler Mehidy Hasan to obstruct the batsman if and as he went for runs.
“When he is running, come in front of him,” Rahim was heard telling Miraz on the stump mic.
Mehidy Hasan was also amongst the contributors to Bangladesh’s victory in the second ODI, as he picked 4/30 in 10 overs. Bangladesh won the match by 103 runs through the D/L method. Sri Lanka made 141 for 9 in 40 overs in response to Bangladesh’s 246 all out in 48.1 overs.
Other Batsman Need To Score Runs With The Bat As Well: Mushfiqur Rahim
Mushfiqur Rahim was named the Player of the Match for his century which was his first since his ODI ton against Australia in the 2019 World Cup. While he was elated with his century drought coming to an end, Rahim felt that other Bangladesh batsmen needed to come to the party and contribute.
“I think Tamim [Iqbal] and Shakib [Al Hasan] score regularly and as they had a bad day, players like Liton, Afif and Mossadek should have grabbed the opportunity. If there are seven to eight performers it becomes easy. They should be more selective with their shot selection and must know when to play low risk shot and when to play high risk shot. I think they (juniors) need to contribute or else it becomes difficult for us,” the former Tigers captain said.
The third and final ODI of the series will be played on May 28, 2021, in Dhaka.
