The high-voltage India vs Pakistan clash at the Asia Cup 2025 is already under fire, with the BCCI being tight-lipped on the intense criticism. With the two arch-rivals scheduled to meet in Dubai on September 14, political fire continues to grow.

After several politicians, Congress’ deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, has now launched a fresh attack on the BCCI. He is urging the board to rethink the India vs Pakistan game in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, which is set to get underway on September 9 in the UAE.

Since the wounds of the tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam are still fresh and Operation Sindoor is still on, the Congress leader stressed that playing cricket with Pakistan at such a sensitive time would be against India’s interests.

He reminded the BCCI that Indian soldiers continue to sacrifice their lives at the borders, so an India vs Pakistan match could send the wrong message to the people of the country.

Gaurav Gogoi wrote in his letter to BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and released to the press, “While cricket has always been a sport that brings joy among people, in the context of current India and Pakistan relations, such engagements should not be prioritized over national interest.”

'This game undermines the sentiments of Indians'

The Jorhat MP said, “Engaging with Pakistan at this stage sends out a message that undermines the sentiments of the people of India who stand firmly against any compromise on national security.”

India and Pakistan are not just rivals, but they carry decades of political tension every time they face each other on the field. And Gogoi stressed that sports cannot be separated from the reality of cross-border hostility, especially when emotions are running high after the Pahalgam terror attack.

Congress’ deputy leader also recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s words and mentioned that the “cross-border tensions still persist.” Gogoi further noted, “Even our Honorable Prime Minister mentioned that water and blood cannot flow together.”

Gaurav Gogoi says national security above India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 game

He also reminded the BCCI and the Indian government of how Pakistan decided to skip the Hockey Asia Cup 2025 in India, citing security concerns, so why should India play them in the cricket event? He has made it clear that national security and diplomacy must be above anything.

Gogoi signed off by saying, “BCCI should avoid cricketing engagements with Pakistan until conditions are favorable and conducive to the nation’s interest.”

If the BCCI stands by the current schedule, the fans will get to see the India vs Pakistan match once in the group stage and then in the Super Four stage, and if they qualify, the Asia Cup 2025 final could be played between the two arch rivals in the UAE next month.

Recently, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi has made it clear that there will be no 'begging' from India again for the bilateral series.
