South Africa opener Connor Esterhuizen has made a big jump in the latest ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings following impressive individual performances. The young batter climbed 65 places to reach 25th position after a strong run during the recent tri-series involving South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.
Esterhuizen scored 126 runs across five innings in the tournament. His best performance came against Namibia, when he smashed 88 runs in the final group-stage match. South Africa defeated Namibia by 48 runs in the summit clash at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek on Sunday, September 6.
Connor Esterhuizen, Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Namibia Batters Climb Rankings
South African batter Lhuan-dre Pretorius made a big jump in the latest ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings. The 20-year-old moved up 61 places to equal 43rd after an excellent tri-series. Pretorius scored 226 runs in four innings against Namibia and Zimbabwe.
Namibia may have missed out on a place in the final, but their batters also made progress in the rankings. Captain Gerhard Erasmus climbed 16 places to 55th, while opener Louren Steenkamp moved up 32 spots to equal 73rd. Both batters made useful contributions during the tournament.
Ishan Kishan is currently at the top of the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings with 910 rating points. Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan is second with 848 points, followed by India’s Abhishek Sharma in third place with 819.
Brad Evans, Sikandar Raza and South Africa Bowlers Make Gains
Zimbabwe fast bowler Brad Evans made the biggest move among the bowlers. He climbed four places to equal 22nd in the ICC Men’s T20I Bowling Rankings after taking 10 wickets at an average of 15.80 during the tri-series. His consistent performances helped him move closer to the top 20.
Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza also moved up two places to 27th in the bowling rankings. South Africa’s Kwena Maphaka climbed 16 spots to equal 38th, while Bjorn Fortuin made an even bigger jump of 37 places to equal 78th after contributing with the ball during the tournament.
Erasmus also made significant progress in the ICC Men’s T20I All-Rounder Rankings. The Namibia captain moved up four places to eighth and reached a new career-high rating. He finished the tri-series with 149 runs and five wickets, underlining his value in both departments.
