Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi criticized Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur for her behaviour during the third ODI against Bangladesh. Shahid Afridi suggested that the ICC should have set an example for the future, noting that such behaviour isn’t very common in women’s cricket.
Harmanpreet Kaur expressed her frustration with the on-field umpire’s decision and smashed the stumps with her bat during the last ODI match in Dhaka last week. The Indian team captain made a controversial gesture to the Bangladesh team skipper during the presentation ceremony.
This Is Not Just India – Shahid Afridi
Speaking to Samaa Tv, Shahid Afridi opened up about Harmanpreet Kaur’s conduct, stating that controlled aggression is good but it was too much.
“This is not just India. We’ve seen these things in the past as well. Although, we don’t see this often in women’s cricket. This was way too much, it was a big event under ICC.
With the punishment, you set an example for the future. You can get aggressive on cricket; controlled aggression is good, but this was a bit too much,” Afridi told Samaa TV.
Harmanpreet Kaur Suspended For Two Games
Harmanpreer Kaur has been fined 50 percent of her match fee for a Level 2 offence and received three demerit points for her conduct. She was also fined 25 percent of her match fee for a Level 1 offence for his public criticism of her dismissal during the post-match presentation.
“The kind of umpiring that was happening we were very surprised. The next time we come to Bangladesh we will make sure we have to deal with this type of umpiring. Some pathetic umpiring was done we are really disappointed about some decisions,” Kaur said.
The 34-year-old received four demerit points and will serve a suspension in international cricket, missing one Test or two ODIs, or as many T20Is, whichever comes first. She will miss the opening two games of the Asian Games, which are scheduled in Hangzhou in September.
