West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph lost his cool during the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 match between the Saint Lucia Kings and the Guyana Amazon Warriors. Alzarri Joseph threw the ball towards the stumps even though the middle-order batter, Shimron Hetmyer, was inside the crease.

The Warriors won the toss and chose to bowl first at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St. Lucia, on Saturday, September 7. They dismissed the Kings for just 100 runs in 14.3 overs. Gudakesh Motie and Imran Tahir each took three wickets, while Keemo Paul took two.

Matthew Forde was the top scorer for the Saint Lucia Kings. Forde scored 31 runs off 21 balls, including three boundaries and two sixes. Johnson Charles (19 runs off 13 balls) and Tim Seifert (12 off 16) failed to score big, while the remaining batters didn’t contribute during the CPL 2024 match.

The incident took place during the ninth over of the Guyana Amazon Warriors' innings. Alzarri Joseph dismissed Azam Khan for a duck. On the next delivery, Hetmyer hit the ball straight back to Joseph, who threw the ball towards the stumps despite the batter being deep inside the crease.

Joseph then stared at Hetmyer after throwing the ball towards the stumps in frustration. The left-handed batter delivered a crushing response by smashing a massive six over midwicket on the next delivery. Notably, the incident between Joseph and Hetmyer has gone viral across social media platforms.

On Saturday, September 14, the Caribbean Premier League's official social media handle X (formerly known as Twitter) shared the video of the intense confrontation between Alzarri Joseph and Shimron Hetmyer. The caption read, "Hetmyer strikes back."

Tim Robinson (33) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (47) formed a strong 62-run opening partnership. Gurbaz then added 29 runs with Shai Hope (11). Shimron Hetmyer and Keemo Paul finished the chase in 10 overs. Noor Ahmad took three wickets for the Saint Lucia Kings, and Alzarri Joseph picked up one.

Extremely Disappointing - Faf du Plessis

After the match, Saint Lucia Kings captain Faf du Plessis expressed his disappointment and added that the conditions were challenging. He said that 100 runs was insufficient and difficult to defend. Du Plessis admitted that they need to reevaluate team strategies.

"Extremely disappointing. It was a bit tacky. Needed to assess the conditions and play accordingly. The score was well under par. It was always tough to defend 100.

He further said: "It is about assessing the conditions for me. The wicket was a little bit under the covers. There was some nip in the first few overs. We have two tough games in a row. We will look at our team combinations. Most of the wickets that we lost were our batters giving it away."
