Cricket Australia (CA) has named Todd Greenberg as their next Chief Executive Officer, as he is all set to succeed the very successful Nick Hockley, who announced his resignation from this position earlier this year.
Greenberg, who is currently serving as the CEO of the Australian Cricketers' Association, will officially assume the role in March 2025, following the conclusion of the ongoing cricket season. He brings a wealth of experience to the position, both as a former cricketer and a seasoned sports administrator.
Cricket Australia (CA) announces Todd Greenberg as new CEO
Todd Greenberg had played for Randwick CC in Sydney, where he delivered praiseworthy performances as a top-order batter between 1987 and 1997 before transitioning into sports administration, managing the Mike Whitney School of Cricket while earning a degree in sports science from the University of NSW.
On the other hand, Nick Hockley took over as the Cricket Australia (CA) CEO in 2020 during a challenging phase for Australian cricket following the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa.
Hockley leaves behind a legacy of great leadership. Cricket Australia witnessed immense success under his tenure, and now Greenberg will have the huge responsibility to carry forward Hockley’s legacy.
However, Greenberg’s experience as the former chief executive of the National Rugby League and then NRL club Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, apart from the Australian Cricketers' Association role, will help him in the high-profile role as the CEO of the Australian Cricket Board.
I am grateful to be given the opportunity: Todd Greenberg
Todd Greenberg will become the 15th CEO of Cricket Australia (CA) since its inception in 1892, with a new chapter in their history set to begin in March 2025. He stated: “I am grateful to be given the opportunity to take on this enormously important role in Australian sport and to further my involvement with a game I've loved since childhood.”
Greenberg further said in an official statement: “This is an extremely exciting time for cricket, with the rapid growth of the game across the globe creating fantastic opportunities while also presenting some challenges to ensure Australian cricket retains its position at the very peak of the game.
Thanks to the work of the current administration, the game has strong fundamentals in place. I want to ensure we build on this momentum so Australian cricket continues to thrive—from local parks to the nation's biggest stadiums.”
Mike Baird welcomes Greenberg on the board
Meanwhile, Cricket Australia (CA) chairman Mike Baird expressed his satisfaction with Greenberg’s appointment after a global recruitment process, saying the board was enormously impressed by his passion for the game and his vision to build on the achievements of the past few years.
Mike Baird stated: “I would like to thank Nick Hockley, who will leave the game in a position of great strength at the end of the season with important foundations, including our broadcast rights deal, MOU, and seven-year content strategy in place.”
