Cricket Canada breaks silence on Nicholas Kirton’s shocking arrest

Canada National Cricket Team skipper Nicholas Kirton shocked the cricketing fraternity after he was taken into police custody in Barbados on Sunday. The news was made public by Jamaica Gleaner, a report which stated he was arrested for carrying a large quantity of a banned substance.
Nicholas Kirton reportedly was carrying 20 pounds (approx. 9 kg) of cannabis, also known as ganja or marijuana and was arrested at the Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados. With him being under custody, Cricket Canada has also been made aware of the development.

Cricket Canada released the official statement, saying that they are actively monitoring the situation and closely following developments. They also mentioned that they will be making fans aware of every development. The statement read:
"Cricket Canada has been made aware of the recent allegations and detainment involving national team player Nicholas Kirton," the board said in a statement. "We are actively monitoring the situation and closely following developments as they unfold. Cricket Canada is committed to ensuring transparency and will provide updates as more details become available."

Cricket Canada also added that they are taking the matter of Nicholas Kirton seriously but also are making sure that they stay fully focused on their preparations for the upcoming North America Cup. The statement further read:
"We take this matter seriously and remain steadfast in upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability within the sport.
"While this situation is being addressed, we would like to assure the public that our national men's team is fully focused on their preparations for the upcoming North America Cup, set to begin on April 18th in the Cayman Islands."
Cricket Canada added: "Cricket Canada remains dedicated to supporting the team as they continue to represent our country with pride and professionalism."
The inaugural North Americas Cup will be held in April. The tournament will see Canada playing against the Bahamas, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, and the USA.
Nicholas Kirton has represented the Canadian National Cricket Team in 21 ODIs and 28 T20Is
Coming to Kirton, he has represented the Canadian National Cricket Team in 21 ODIs. He has slammed 514 runs and also has smashed 627 runs in 28 T20Is.
He played in the Caribbean Premier League for Jamaica Tallawahs in 2020. Kirton played for West Indies Under-19 and Barbados, and after that, he migrated to Canada.
