Cricket Scotland has been rocked by a sexism scandal after an independent report found examples of widespread sexism in the organisation. In the wake of the scandal, chief executive Trudy Lindblade has issued an apology.

The report has been authored by human resources firm McKinney. They have come up with nine suggestions for the under-pressure cricket board including suggestions to increase investment in the women’s game. McKinney have also called for more education to address the inherent sexism in Scotland’s cricket.

Issuing an apology, Lindblade stated that the cricket board allowed ‘disrespectful, demeaning and deeply concerning’ behaviour against the female players and staff ‘for a significant period’. Calling the behaviour ‘completely unacceptable’, Lindblade apologised to ‘every single person who was affected’ by the problem.

“This report is a damning indictment of the treatment of female players and staff within our organisation,” said Lindblade.

“It is evident that Cricket Scotland allowed behaviours to take place that were disrespectful, demeaning and deeply concerning, and that these were allowed to continue for a significant period.

“This is completely unacceptable, and I wholeheartedly apologise to every single person who was affected and let down by the governing body.

“This report also highlights the huge amount of work that we need to do throughout cricket in Scotland to improve the standing of women and girls within our sport,” added Lindblade.

This is not the first time that Cricket Scotland has grabbed attention for all the wrong reasons. In 2022, the cricket board was accused of being ‘institutionally racist’ following an independent review.

Cricket Scotland gears up for ICC T20 World Cup:

While Cricket Scotland has been rocked by the sexism scandal, they will be hoping to take the required steps quickly before focusing on this year’s T20 World Cup. Scotland have booked their place in this year’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to be played in June in the West Indies and the United States of America.
