Cricket South Africa (CSA), the cricket apex body of the Proteas became the latest country to announce equal pay in both men’s and women’s international cricket.

South Africa became the third nation after New Zealand and India who earlier announced equal pay for both teams in international cricket.

Earlier this year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed that there will be no pay parity in Indian cricket.

However, the exceptional decision was first taken by New Zealand Cricket, the sports governing body for the Black Caps.

In recent years, the South African women’s cricket team have excelled and became the last four teams of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 which was held in New Zealand.

In the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, the Proteas reached the final place after beating England in the semi-final, but unfortunately lost the final match against Australia by 19 runs. Suné Luus-led South Africa to the final spot for the first time.

On Tuesday (August 22), Cricket South Africa announced the news of the changes in the pay structure of both domestic and international for all genders, where there will be no pay parity.

In the domestic cricket of South Africa, every squad can keep up to 11 players, earlier the teams could have kept six players in the team. The domestic cricket teams now can also hire permanent head coach and support staff for their respective teams.

Cricket South Africa chief Pholetsi Moseki announced the decision of equal pay in the Proteas cricket fraternity was taken to celebrate the incredible achievements in the last few years.
