Former Scottish cricketer Duncan Pauline has been left heartbroken after the sudden death of his wife, Wiyada Pauline. The 46-year-old Wiyada suddenly collapsed while shopping at a Waitrose supermarket in Esher, Surrey, earlier this week.
She fell unconscious inside the shopping store, and emergency services were called immediately. Both the high street and the supermarket were closed as the medical teams desperately tried to revive her, but she was sadly declared dead on the spot.

Duncan Pauline was quoted as saying by The Sun, “She went out to Waitrose at about 5.15pm, and then I got a call from one of her friends. I went up there expecting she’d had a knock on the head but not that she was dead. When I got there, the police told me she had passed away.”

The former Surrey cricketer further added, “I went up there expecting she'd had a knock on the head but not that she was dead. When I got there, the police told me she had passed away. She had a cloth over her head, and she looked very peaceful when they pulled the cloth off her head. She was only 46; it's a shock that she could go so young.”
We were due to retire in a couple of years: Duncan recalls
Wiyada Pauline was originally from Thailand, and she was set to retire alongside her husband, Duncan Pauline. The couple had already made plans to settle down in Thailand, where they had bought a home to begin a new chapter together.
But those dreams have now been shattered by Wiyada’s sudden passing. The heartbreaking news has shaken Duncan, who represented Surrey in English county cricket for seven years during the 1980s. Pauline has now asked for privacy in the toughest time.
The cricketer further added, “We've been married for 22 years, and we were due to retire in a couple of years. She wanted to go back home to Thailand. We even bought a house in Thailand for our retirement—the sad thing is she won't get to do that now.”

The police issued a statement on the incident
Police have confirmed that the incident is being treated as a medical emergency with no suspicious circumstances involved.
The police said in a statement, “We are currently on scene following a call to a concern for safety in Esher shortly after 6pm this evening (August 20). Waitrose on the high street has been closed, and there is a significant emergency services presence in the area as we deal with this incident.”
Notably, Pauline has played 61 first-class matches in his career and scored 2258 runs with the help of one century at an average of 25. He also has 750 runs to his name in 46 List-A games, including four centuries. The former all-rounder also scalped 18 first-class wickets and 17 List-A matches. In his entire career, Pauline represented Scotland, Glamorgan, and Surrey in the game.
