Amid the underwhelming performance of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the current edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the CEO of the franchise, Kasi Viswanathan, himself provided the latest updates on the fitness of MS Dhoni.
The former skipper and the icon of the team, MS Dhoni, is yet to appear in the IPL 2026 for the Chennai Super Kings. Without the 44-year-old in the line-up, the team has suffered three back-to-back defeats in a row. In the moment of crisis, the fans of the team are eagerly waiting for the legendary keeper-batter to see in action.
When will MS Dhoni return for CSK in IPL 2026?
Ahead of CSK's next fixture of the IPL 2026, Kasi Vishwanathan stated that the former international cricketer is yet to recover fully, and this can take a few more days as well. The CEO also provided updates about another injured player, Dewald Brevis. Brevis has the chance to make a comeback in the next game.
"Moreover in progress for MS Dhoni, no fixed return timeline yet. Meanwhile, Dewald Brevis is being monitored closely and could be back for the next game if recovery goes well," Kasi Viswanathan said to Cricbuzz.
Uncertainty looking over the former captain of the Chennai Super Kings
Ahead of the IPL 2026 season, CSK informed that MS Dhoni received a calf injury during their pre-season camp. The keeper-batter is still recovering from the injury. As per the latest reports, his participation in the league remains uncertain. Earlier, a few reports claimed that he could remain out of the ground for around a couple of weeks. But now, as the franchise CEO failed to provide any specific date, it is assumed that fans may have to wait longer to see his return.
On the other side, Dewald Brevis, is among the key players in the present set-up of the Chennai Super Kings. The emerging swashbuckling batter from South Africa can provide the batter order some instant firepower with his raw hitting skills.
Dewald Brevis is expected to feature in the IPL 2026 soon
Last year, when the team was struggling to get extra runs from their middle-order, the inclusion of Dewald Brevis proved instantly effective. Brevis was signed by CSK as an injury replacement in IPL 2025.
He instantly found himself in the playing combination of the team. He went on to score 225 runs at a strike rate of 180 in the six matches he played and was retained by the five-time champion. Ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, the franchise showed its trust in the batter by retaining him for a full season.
A few days before, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming also provided some crucial updates on the batter. Fleming also expected to see Brevis returning to action soon in the CSK colors.
"Hope Brevis comes back in the next game," Fleming said during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Chennai Super Kings (RCB vs CSK) match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
