Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are well and truly alive in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Their win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the tournament has made the fans believe that they are very much in contention for the playoff spot in the league.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) squared off with each other in the 61st game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The match between the two teams took place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday (12th May)

Chennai Super Kings were asked to field first and they had a great outing with the ball at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. After a solid partnership by Yashasvi Jaiswal (24) and Jos Buttler (21), they didn't let the opposition take the driver's seat.

Chennai Super Kings bowlers were right on the money as they not only picked wickets at regular intervals but they also ensured that they restricted run flow as well. They didn't let a single Rajasthan Royals batter go past half-century, which says a lot about their performance.

Simarjeet Singh picked three wickets while Tushar Deshpande grabbed two scalps as they restricted Rajasthan Royals to a total of 141 runs. For the Sanju Samson-led side, Riyan Parag was the top run scorer with his knock of 47 runs.

With the bat, Rachin Ravindra (27) and Ruturaj Gaikwad took Chennai Super Kings off to a flying start. They added 32 runs before Daryl Mitchell chipped in with brutal innings of 22 runs to keep their team in the hunt at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Mooen Ali (10) and Shivam Dube (18) chipped in with valuable contributions to take Chennai Super Kings close to the target. A controversy also unfolded as well after Ravindra Jadeja got out obstructing the field.

However, after that skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad (42*) made sure that he took his team home. Sameer Rizvi (15*) supported him well as Chennai Super Kings won the game by 5 wickets.

Chennai Super Kings Qualification Scenario for IPL 2024 Playoffs

The win against Rajasthan Royals was the 7th win for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. They now are stationed 3rd on the points table with 14 points to their name from 13 games with a massive NRR of +0.528, which is a huge positive for them

To qualify for the playoffs, Chennai Super Kings need just one win. If they manage to win their last game of the Indian Premier League, they will reach 16 points and with the kind of NRR they have, it surely would take them to the playoffs.

However, if they lose their last game of the IPL 2024, they still might be in contention. But they need some results to go in their favor. They would want Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru to lose one of their remaining games. This will keep above mentioned teams on 14 points and Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side might pip others to qualify based on NRR.

Chennai Super Kings have a chance to bag the second spot in the points table. If Rajasthan Royals lose their last two games and they win their last game, they might take the second spot in the points table.
