Aakash Chopra ranked the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as the best-placed team ahead of the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) heading into the IPL auction. Chopra highlighted that CSK has significant funds with limited players to buy in the auction.
The Super Kings released players, such as Ben Stokes and Ambati Rayudu, ahead of the auction. Stokes has made himself unavailable, and Rayudu retired from Indian cricket. With a purse of ₹31.40 crore, CSK can acquire a maximum of 6 players, including 3 foreigners.
You Got A Lot Of Money Available – Aakash Chopra
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra mentioned the return of Mukesh Choudhary and suggested CSK might focus on acquiring one or two Indian batters, considering potential picks like Shahrukh Khan, Manish Pandey, or Karun Nair.
“I feel Chennai are the best placed. They were last season’s champions. They have a lot of money and they don’t need to buy too many players. Ben Stokes and Ambati Rayudu left and suddenly you got a lot of money available,” Chopra said.
“Mukesh Choudhary is back available again. They can buy whoever they want because they have a lot of money. The team is looking extremely strong. I feel they will look towards one or two Indian batters. They might take Shahrukh Khan, Manish Pandey or Karun Nair.”
The Chennai-based franchise is eyeing potential replacements for Ambati Rayudu in the upcoming edition of the IPL. Shahrukh Khan was released by the Punjab Kings, Manish Pandey by the Delhi Capitals, and Karun Nair by the Lucknow Super Giants.
MS Dhoni Is A Fantastic Captain – Aakash Chopra
Chopra highlighted CSK’s advantage of having significant funds and not needing many players, while RCB and MI face challenges in the bowling department and have limited funds. Chopra praised MS Dhoni’s leadership, emphasizing his ability to address team needs.
“Then they will need some fast bowlers. They will get that. In any case, you say about Dhoni – ‘Want to become a batter or a bowler, I will get that done’. He is an amazing player and a fantastic captain,” Chopra further added.
“So, in my opinion, Chennai are better placed than the others because both RCB and MI have to do shopping, especially in the bowling department, and they don’t have as much money as they should have had. They could have had more money, but unfortunately, they don’t.”
