Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have reportedly signed up Urvil Patel as an injury replacement for the remainder of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025).
He is expected to replace 22-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman Vansh Bedi in the squad. According to reports, Bedi was close to making his IPL debut during CSK's last game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He was also included in the playing eleven for the match but suffered an unfortunate injury at the last moment and was replaced by Deepak Hooda.

Urvil is a 26-year old wicketkeeper-batsman who plays for Gujarat in domestic circuit. Urvil grabbed the headlines last year when he smashed the fastest T20 century by an Indian. He scored a 28-ball century against Tripura in the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Urvil enjoyed a prolific campaign with the bat in the tournament. He scored 315 runs in 6 games including two centuries while maintaining an average of more than 78 and a strike-rate of almost 230. Overall, he has played 47 T20s and scored 1162 runs including 2 centuries and 4 fifties.

Urvil Patel is not the first replacement:
Urvil Patel is not the first player to join CSK as an injury replacement this season. Apart from enduring a torrid time on the field this season, the CSK have also suffered a number of injury setbacks. They lost the services of their captain and batting mainstay, Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Gaikwad could play only five games this season before being sidelined. He was replaced in the CSK squad by 17-year-old Mumbai opener Ayush Mhatre. Later, the five-time IPL champions also roped in South Africa's Dewald Brevis to replace injured Gurjapneet Singh in their squad.
Urvil Patel is now the third player to join the team as an injury replacement. With CSK's season already over, he will be hoping to make his IPL debut in the ongoing tournament.
CSK are currently languishing at the bottom of the points table with just 2 wins from 11 games. They became the first team to be knocked out of the ongoing IPL 2025. With three more games left, CSK will look to end their campaign on a good note.
