Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad expressed his delight over leading his team to a much-needed win in the final home game of the ongoing IPL 2024. CSK, on Sunday (May 12), thrashed Rajasthan Royals by five wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium to get back to winning ways.

After suffering a 35-run loss against Gujarat Titans in their last game, CSK bounced back in style to register their seventh win of the season. RR captain Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to bat first. On a slow pitch, CSK bowlers did well to restrict RR to 141/5.

Simarjeet Singh was the pick of the bowlers for CSK, taking 3 wickets while Tushar Deshpande claimed two. In reply, CSK chased down the total inside 19 overs by losing five wickets. Ruturaj Gaikwad led from the front as he stood firm at one end and scored an unbeaten 42 to take his team home.

Ruturaj Gaikwad on the win:

Speaking at the end of the game, Ruturaj Gaikwad said that winning the final game of the season at home was a wonderful feeling. He also stated that CSK were not under pressure even after losing few wickets in quick succession after the powerplay. The CSK skipper further said that the team would like to play on such tracks at home that aid the bowlers.

"Wonderful feeling, especially winning the final game of the league stage. We were cruising after the powerplay but we let the opposition in with wickets. But we had the kind of batters to finish the job and didn't take pressure," said Gaikwad.

"We would like to play on such pitches where it will keep our bowlers in the game, the spinners as well. Bowling into the wicket is the plan usually here when it's slow. But sometimes it flattens out and the yorker and the use of two short balls becomes important. But slow pace off is a good ploy here," he added.

CSK are currently at the third spot in the points table. They will be taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their final league game of the season.
