Former England captain Eoin Morgan lauded the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) following their victory over the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH). Eoin Morgan stated that the Faf du Plessis-led team showed how the other teams can take on the SunRisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru outplayed the Pat Cummins-led side in Hyderabad on Thursday, April 25. The visiting team broke their six-match losing streak after beating the Hyderabad team by 35 runs. The team successfully defended a total of 206 runs against the aggressive Hyderabad batting lineup.
A Wake Up Call To The Other Sides - Eoin Morgan
Speaking on Jio Cinema, Eoin Morgan pointed out the SRH's aggressive play against the Delhi Capitals (DC). Morgan highlighted that RCB's performance serves as a wake-up call for other teams facing the SunRisers.
"That can be a contributing factor (chasing led to SRH’s defeat?) alongside what the wicket has to go be. We saw what happened in Delhi, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, it was an absolute road. It was a pure shootout. In a pure shootout, they will come up trumps, majority of the time just because of the way they play," Eoin Morgan said on Jio Cinema.
"So, I think the way RCB played is, I think, a wake-up call to how the other sides take on the SunRisers," Morgan further added.
The Hyderabad-based team started the tournament with two losses in their first three matches. However, they bounced back to secure five wins in the subsequent matches. The 2016 champion registered record-breaking scores of 287, 277, and 266 in the IPL 2024.
Sunrisers Hyderabad missed the opportunity to reach the second spot in the points table. The SRH team currently holds third place with 10 points to their tally. Meanwhile, the Bengaluru-based team remains at the bottom of the table despite the recent victory.
It Will Be Interesting To See - Eoin Morgan
Sunrisers Hyderabad will face the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their next match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, April 28. The SRH team emerged victorious when they faced the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led team at their home ground in Hyderabad.
Eoin Morgan suggested that if CSK can tailor the pitch to favor their spinners, they could pose a significant challenge to SRH at Chepauk. The former cricketer highlighted Marcus Stoinis's match-winning century against CSK on a good pitch in Chennai.
"They are going to go to Chennai next. Obviously, so far at the Chepauk, we have seen really good batting pitches. So it will be interesting to see if CSK go back to what works for them - the CSK squeeze. On a good pitch, we saw what Marcus Stoinis did the other night at the Chepauk in that chase," Morgan concluded.
Sunrisers Hyderabad faced a setback as they lost Travis Head early in the first over. Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram, and Heinrich Klaasen were dismissed within five overs. Shahbaz Ahmed remained unbeaten on 40 runs. It was their first home loss in IPL 2024.
