With Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Virat Kohli retiring from Tests, the Indian team is undergoing a transition phase. Newly appointed captain Shubman Gill will be leading the team and will be eyeing a memorable series win.

India have not won a Test series in England since 2007 and will look to end their winless run in England. On the other hand, England's last series win over India came in 2018, and they will be keen to register a series win on their home soil.

Experts reveal their picks for the India vs England series:

The cricketing fraternity is eagerly waiting for the India vs England series to get underway. And with less than a week remaining before the first India vs England Test begins at Headingley, a number of former cricketers have revealed their pick for the highest-scoring batsman in the series.

In a video shared by Star Sports, the former cricketers picked the top batters. Former India wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta picked Joe Root to be England's highest run-scorer before backing Shubman Gill to lead the run-scoring chart for India.

Former Australian batsman Matthew Hayden picked Sai Sudharsan to be the highest run-scorer in the series. The southpaw has earned his maiden call-up from the Test team and is likely to make his debut in the series. Sudharsan enjoyed a stunning campaign in IPL 2025, finishing the tournament as the highest run-scorer.

Former India all-rounder Sanjay Bangar picked KL Rahul, while Proteas legend Dale Steyn gave his vote for Harry Brook. Also, former India opener Aakash Chopra picked Joe Root while former pacer Varun Aaron went with Sai Sudharsan.
