Dale Steyn picked as 'Greatest Test Pacer' over Curtly Ambrose, Glenn McGrath

Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull recently participated in a 'This or That' game on the best Test pacer – 90s kids edition. The cricketer-turned-commentator picked former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn ahead of legendary players like Curtly Ambrose, Glenn McGrath, and James Anderson.
Simon Doull played 32 Tests and 42 ODI matches for New Zealand between 1992 and 2000. He picked up 98 wickets in his Test career while claiming 36 wickets in ODI cricket. After retiring from international cricket, Doull became a respected cricket commentator and analyst across global tournaments.

In a video shared by Cricbuzz on X (formerly known as Twitter), Simon Doull recently took part in a ‘This or That’ challenge where he was asked to choose between legendary fast bowlers. The game began with Curtly Ambrose and Glenn McGrath. Doull opted for Ambrose as his preferred pick.
"Oh, you started me off with a tough one there. Ambrose or McGrath? Ambrose or McGrath? Oh man, I'm gonna go with Ambrose. I'm sorry. Sorry, Glenn."
Doull continued to pick Ambrose over Wasim Akram, Courtney Walsh, and Zaheer Khan. The cricketer-turned-all-rounder then chose Dale Steyn over Ambrose in the next round.

Team India pace-bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was overlooked by the former cricketer. When asked to pick between Steyn and Kagiso Rabada, Doull paused for a couple of seconds. He then picked Steyn in the round.
"Oh my goodness. Rabada's strike rate is brilliant. Dale Steyn," Doull said
The former Kiwi cricketer continued to pick Steyn over Stuart Broad, Mitchell Starc, Shaun Pollock, and James Anderson. Doull backed Steyn as the best Test pacer – 90s kids edition.

Dale Steyn Announced His Retirement from International Cricket in 2021
Dale Steyn, known for his blistering pace and aggressive bowling, made his international debut in 2004. Steyn was a key figure in South Africa’s bowling attack for over a decade. He played 93 Tests, 125 ODIs, and 47 T20Is. The fast bowler took 439 wickets in Tests and finished as the country’s highest wicket-taker.
Steyn bagged 196 wickets in ODIs and 64 in T20Is. His Test bowling average of 22.95 and strike rate of 42.3 are among the best in the modern era. Steyn topped the ICC Test bowling rankings for a record 263 weeks.
He delivered match-winning performances in Australia, England, and the subcontinent, making him a threat in all conditions. Steyn retired from Test cricket in 2019 and from all formats of the game in 2021.
The veteran cricketer’s career was impacted by injuries in its later stages. He remains a celebrated figure in world cricket and now works as a coach and commentator.
