The Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) has taken a massive step regarding a former Pakistan cricketer amid escalating diplomatic tensions between the two nations. Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria's photo has been removed from the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur as a precautionary measure.

Kaneria recently criticized Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for not condemning the terror attack in India. The attack occurred on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, where terrorists opened fire on tourists, claiming the lives of 26 people. The Pakistani PM chose to remain silent on the issue.

Kaneria’s career was marked by both achievements and controversy. He made his ODI debut in 2001 against Zimbabwe but played only 18 ODIs, taking 15 wickets at an average of 45.53. His final ODI appearance was in 2007.

He made his Test debut in 2000 against England. Kaneria finished with 261 wickets from 61 matches and an economy rate of 3.07. He recorded eight four-wicket and 15 five-wicket hauls in Tests. His last international match was a Test against England in 2010. Notably, Kaneria never played T20Is for Pakistan.

How Operation Sindoor Triggered a Military Stand-Off Between India and Pakistan

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated following the launch of Operation Sindoor by Indian forces. India initiated the mission in response to a brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The attack claimed 26 civilian lives, including 25 Indians and one Nepali national.

On May 7, India launched strikes targeting nine key terror strongholds across Pakistan’s Punjab province and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). These attacks reportedly killed over 100 terrorists and dismantled infrastructure used to orchestrate cross-border assaults on Indian soil.

Pakistan then attempted multiple strikes on Indian military installations. However, India’s air defence systems successfully intercepted these attacks. India targeted and demolished several Pakistani military facilities. Both nations agreed to de-escalate and halt further hostilities on May 10.

Inzamam-ul-Haq Supported Me a Lot - Danish Kaneria

Danish Kaneria has spoken about the religious discrimination he faced during his time with the Pakistan cricket team. Kaneria said former captain Shahid Afridi repeatedly urged him to convert to Islam. However, Kaneria acknowledged the support he received from former skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq.

He also mentioned Shoaib Akhtar as another teammate who showed him respect. Kaneria said the constant religious bias left a lasting impact on him.

“I was doing well in my career and was playing county cricket too. Inzamam-ul-Haq supported me a lot and was the only captain who did so. Alongside him, Shoaib Akhtar. Shahid Afridi and many other Pakistan players troubled me a lot and didn’t eat with me. Shahid Afridi was the main person telling me to convert, and he did a lot of times. Inzamam-ul-Haq never used to talk that way,” Danish Kaneria was quoted as saying by ANI.
