West Indies head coach Daren Sammy expressed his frustration over several umpiring decisions that went against his team during the second day of the opening Test against Australia in Barbados. Sammy reportedly took up the matter with match referee Javagal Srinath regarding the controversies.
The third umpire, Adrian Holdstock, faced criticism following his decisions. Roston Chase was given out LBW to Pat Cummins despite the Windies batter getting an inside edge. Shai Hope was declared out caught behind, but replays showed that Alex Carey may have grounded the ball while completing the catch.
We Are Just Trying to Find Some Sort of Understanding - Daren Sammy
According to ESPNcricinfo, Daren Sammy raised concerns about several controversial decisions with the match referee. He revealed that his concerns with Holdstock were not new, citing similar concerns during the recent ODI series against England.
"We are just trying to find some sort of understanding as to what the process is. We only hope for consistency. That's all we could ask for. When there is doubt in something, just be consistent across the board," ESPNCricinfo quoted Sammy as saying.
"I have noticed, especially with this particular umpire, it's something that for me started in England. It's frustrating. I just ask for consistency in the decision-making," he added.

You Don't Want to Get Yourself in a Situation - Daren Sammy
Sammy has not ruled out the possibility of filing an official complaint against third umpire Adrian Holdstock, saying, “You’ll have to wait and see.” He emphasized that his priority is to seek clarity rather than target individuals.
"Look, you don't want to get yourself in a situation where you're wondering about certain umpires. Is there something against this team? But when you see decision after decision, then it raises the question. I know he's here for the series. You don't want to go in a Test match having that doubt," said Sammy.
We Know Fines Going All Across the Board - Daren Sammy
Daren Sammy also stated that he had instructed his players not to speak about the umpiring decisions after Day 2. Sammy added that his team had made errors, especially by dropping multiple catches.
"We know the rules. We know fines going all across the board," Daren Sammy said.
"I don't want them to focus on that. Yes, we're kind of shooting ourselves in the foot by dropping so many catches, but look at the Test match, [us] against our own selves, some of these decisions, and we're still in a position to win," Sammy added.
At the end of Day 2 in the first Test, Australia reached 92/4 in their second innings, with a lead of 82 runs. Travis Head (13*) and Beau Webster (19*) remained unbeaten at the crease.
The match has been tightly contested so far, despite some controversial umpiring decisions. Australia were bowled out for 180 in their first innings after opting to bat, and West Indies responded with 190, securing a 10-run lead.
Australia struggled once again in their second outing, scoring at a slow pace across 33 overs. The West Indies are eyeing a remarkable back-to-back Test victory against the visitors, having beaten them in Brisbane last year.
