Chennai Super Kings have signed up New Zealand star Daryl Mitchell in the ongoing IPL auction 2024. The New Zealander had registered himself at a base price of Rs. 1 crore.

Delhi Capitals started the bidding before Punjab Kings joined the race. Both the teams showed a keen interest in Daryl Mitchell and took the bid past the 10 crores mark before Chennai Super Kings entered the race at Rs. 12.00 crores. Punjab Kings eventually gave up at Rs 14 crores and Chennai Super Kings signed him up.

Daryl Mitchell became the third player after Pat Cummins (Rs 20.50 crore) and Harshal Patel (Rs 11.75 crore) to touch the 10 crore mark in the ongoing auction. Before signing him up, Chennai Super Kings had also signed up his New Zealand teammate Rachin Ravindra for Rs 1.80 crores.

Daryl Mitchell has been one of the most consistent middle-order batters in international cricket for quite some time now. The right-handed batter has scored runs all across the world in recent times. Recently, he impressed in the World Cup too, and finished the competition as the fifth-highest run-scorer.

In 10 games, he scored 552 runs with the help of 2 centuries and 2 half-centuries. One of those centuries came against India in the semifinal. Daryl Mitchell is yet to make a mark on the IPL but has already played one season. In 2022, he plied his trade for Rajasthan Royals and played just two games, scoring 33 runs before being released.

He went unsold in the 2023 auction. In T20Is, the New Zealander has scored more than 1000 runs at a strike-rate of over 137. He has also hit five half-centuries in T20Is.
