In a heartwarming display of dedication, South African cricketer David Bedingham postponed his wedding for a day to be available for Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) in the SA20 2025 final against the MI Cape Town on Saturday, February 8, in Johannesburg.
David Bedingham was originally set to marry Jenna van Niekerk on February 8, but after Sunrisers Eastern Cape made it to the SA20 final for the third straight time, the Proteas batter decided to take the field for his team at the iconic Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.

However, Sunrisers Eastern Cape suffered a 76-run defeat against MI Cape Town in the SA20 2025 Final, but Bedingham won the hearts with his dedication towards the game and commitment to his team. Many have been praising him for putting his team first over everything.
Earlier, Bedingham's fiancée playfully wished his Sunrisers team would lose at first. However, she fully supported the cricketer’s decision to play. Now, David Bedingham and Jenna van Niekerk are all set to celebrate their special day a day later on Sunday, February 9.
Before the SA20 2025 Final, Bedingham had stated, “My missus yesterday was literally saying, ‘I hope you guys lose [the Qualifier], but she said once we won that we must make it to the final and then hopefully make it to the wedding as well.”
David Bedingham sends father to his own bachelor party
The right-handed batter missed his own bachelor party as he was playing for Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the qualifier against Paarl Royals, and he had to send his own father to his bachelor party. He added, “My best man and my brother are also flying up, and basically they told my missus that they’ll make sure I make the flight. I said it will end up with me making sure they get on the flight.”
On the other hand, ESPNCricinfo journalist Firdose Moonda revealed, “The wedding was booked and planned, but then SEC made the final, so now he has moved the wedding to tomorrow.”
However, chasing 182 runs for the title, Bedingham could manage just five off eight deliveries as the Sunrisers Eastern Cape were bundled out for just 105, and MI Cape Town won their maiden SA20 title.
David Bedingham among Top-10 run scorers in SA20 2025
Notably, David Bedingham was a key player for Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20 2025. The 30-year-old batter has yet again proved his worth by scoring 236 runs in 11 innings across 12 matches before the final.
With an impressive strike rate of nearly 123, Bedingham finished as the team’s second-highest run-scorer, only behind captain Aiden Markram, who amassed 340 runs in 13 matches.
His consistent performances have been crucial to the team's runner-up journey this season. He is among the top 10 run scorers in the SA20 2025 with 241 runs in 12 innings at an average of 20 and a strike rate of around 120.
Lhuan-dre Pretorius finished as the SA20 2025's leading run-scorer with 397 runs in 12 matches.
