It was a heartbreaking moment for David Miller when the cricket management board of South Africa refused to hand him a central contract. After serving the national cricket team for years, Miller was not prepared for that moment.
Miller, who is currently without a central contract but continues to play for the national side, showed, at the age of 37, what he is capable of. Against Australia, for the second of the ongoing three-match ODI series, Miller scored a match-defining 142 runs off 93 balls.
Australia started the match on a fine note

In the high-scoring match at the Wanderers Stadium in Sandton, both teams went well over the 300-run mark, but in the end, it was South Africa that had the last laugh with David Miller as the Player of the Match.
Josh Hazlewood provided Australia a solid start by dismissing Aiden Markram on the very first ball of the match. The other opener, Quinton de Kock, also departed without claiming a big knock.

Skipper Temba Bavuma was the first to stand tall against the fiery Australian bowling attack. Bavuma's 103-run knock cured the Proteas from the early setbacks, and David Miller converted the hard-earned momentum into a massive total.
South Africa scored 365 runs in 50 overs against 9 wickets; Miller alone collected 142 runs with a strike rate of 152.69. During the knock, the batter who is famously known as 'Killer Miller' among cricket fans took the Australian bowlers for twelve 4s and nine 6s. This knock was enough to define David Miller as a batter and to break multiple records.
