Lucknow Super Giants have signed up former England pacer David Willey at his base price of Rs 2 crores in the ongoing IPL auction 2024. David Willey recently impressed in the World Cup where he was one of the very few positives in an otherwise dismal campaign for England.
The left-arm pacer finished the competition as England’s second-highest wicket-taker despite playing only 6 of the 9 league games. In those 6 games, he picked up 11 wickets including a three-wicket haul against hosts India.
During the World Cup, he also announced his retirement from international cricket after failing to get a central contract from the ECB. David Willey has played in three seasons of IPL so far. His journey began in 2018 when Chennai Super Kings signed him up as an injury replacement for Kedhar Jadhav.
While he did not play any matches in IPL 2019, 2020, and 2021, he returned to action in 2022 with Royal Challengers Bangalore. In the last two seasons, he has plied his trade for the Bengaluru-based outfit and has played 8 games.
